Because most electric scooters are not allowed on public roads in the Netherlands, it can happen that you are stopped by the police. What should you do then? We explain it to you!
There is more and more strict enforcement on driving an electric scooter. The scooter can be confiscated immediately, because you are riding an illegal scooter. The fine is no less than €390.
The StepStep is allowed, because pedal assistance is used (click here for the rules regarding the e-step with pedal assistance). The legal e-scooters can be recognized by the sticker on the back of the scooter. It is possible that the police officer is not yet aware of this rule. The police uses an app on which they can see that the scooter is allowed. This contains the step with step support. There is a good chance that, even if you drive on a StapStep, you will be stopped once. It is important that you then know what to do!
- You should not assume that the police officer is aware of this app. Explain it to him/her calmly.
- Explain to the police officer that an app is being used for more information. The app is called BOS, an abbreviation of Blue Op Straat.
All StapSteps also have the sticker below.
